Memories of the Bris

Mommies Boys

What are my chances?

So...our first outing out was to, you guessed it, the one the only, Target!!! It was hard to stay away for a few days! So we rounded up the troops and headed south to Grafton. Brad and I debated bringing the stroller in for Sam, which ended up to be a very very smart idea. It only took a matter of minutes before both of our boys fell asleep. WOW...if this could only happen everywhere we go, life would be a perfect thing:) So yes, I never leave home without it, I had to capture the moment.

Smaller than the burp cloth???

My sleeping prince

I survived my 1st day alone!!!

I did it, and am proud to say, did a darn good job. Brad went back to work yesterday morning after being home for the past week with his new family. As he was saying his good byes, I got a little teary, but held it together and knew I had to conquer this 1st time challenge.

The boys did GREAT. Matthew decided to nap at all the correct times and Sam decided he was going to be a good boy the entire day. Of course, the phone calls I got in between the day disrupted him a little bit but all in all he did well.

there are a few things that are totally opposite of my two children that I would like to document.
1. Sam NEVER liked to be swaddled, Matthew-Can't NOT be swaddled when he is sleeping. This swaddling technique has helped us through 2 GREAT nights of sleeping.

2. Sam NEVER liked to be held in the upright position against my shoulder. Matthew-LOVES to be near and dear to our beating hearts.

3. Sam would NEVER fall asleep on his own, Matthew-loves to lay in his crib swaddled so tight that he can hardly move his little toes awake to fall asleep.

4. Sam LOVED his bottles, Matthew-prefers the breast and will take a bottle if he is starving.

I know it's hard NOT to compare children, but it truly amazes me how different they really are. I know Matthew is still a little guy, but looking at him daily really reminds me of newborn Sam, just a petite portion.

And the BEST part about my 1st day alone...we ALL napped for 2 hours together!!!!!! Sam (of course) woke us ALL up...and then (I will add a little negativity) everyone needed something at once....2 poopy diapers, 2 starving children, and one half asleep mom really made for a exciting 20 minutes!

However, WE DID IT!!! Tomorrow's challenge, to have dinner ready when Daddy comes home.

Matthews first trip to see the doctor

We had our newborn check this morning. Dr Paley told us that he looks great. She said he was a little yellow, so they did a billy blood test, however we just got word that his level is at 14 which means NO NEED for phototherapy and we will see her again on Friday!!! Horray! Ahhh a sigh of relief as we fought billy with Sam.

Stats 5 days old:
Weight: 6 lbs. 10 oz (25%)
Length 19 1/2" (50%)
Head: 33.5 (15%)

We are going to be having the bris a little "untraditional" this baby time. To accommodate all schedules, we are going to have Dr Berkoff do the actual circ in the morning and then to celebrate this special day we are going to reconvene around 4:30 at Stan and Judi's for the celebration with Rabbi Shari Shamah. Thank you to all who can be there for support and joy!

Welcome Matthew Joseph

After 6.5 hours of labor, 3 pushes later, Baby Matthew or as his brother calls him, "Macheww" arrived on Thursday, July 13, 2006! He weighed in at: 6lbs. 14 oz. and 19 1/2" tall. We have came to a family agreement that he indeed is a little Sam. Matthew has been a wonderful baby thus far. He has given his mommy 2 great nights at the hospital and is thriving. Enjoy the pictures!

Labor and Delivery...

The thoughts..."why did we do this ALL over again" were VIVID in my mind, as I lay there in pain....wondering WHY?

I had a routine doctors appointment on Wednesday, July 12th, 2006. The doctor said I was still 1 cm and still very very high. She "scrapped my membranes" but said again, I was very very high, so the chances of her being successful was on the low side....

2:01 a.m.....in the comfort of my own bed....I got a sudden feeling of...DON'T MOVE...I just had a strong feeling that if I moved to do my routine trip to the bathroom I would be packing my bags and leaving for the hospital and as LONG as I have waited this to happen, my body was overwhelmed with a strong sense of fear and the "unknown". I did attempt to stay still and out of pure habbit, 2:26 rolled around, got up, and wandered into the bathroom, to find myself in a pool of water, water was everywhere.

Judi (Brad's mom) arrived in a matter of minutes. I phoned the on call doctor and she admitted me to the hospital and at 3:30, Brad and I were in the car on our way. No contractions yet, just a lot of water...

We arrived at the Hospital, checked in, and they escorted us to L&D. We waited and waited for contractions and finally I received my IV of Pitocen at 6:30a.m. As I watched the pit drip into my IV, the contractions started. Around 10:50 a.m. I requested the, what I remembered to be, GOD SENT Epidural. However...the what I remembered to be epidural was just not working. My contractions got stronger and stronger by the minute and I was in pure pain, still waiting at 2-3 centimeters and still very very high. I lay there, tears and FEAR everywhere that I was going to have to do this labor without any pain relief.

After minutes of stunned nurses and doctors, the nurse said, "wait...I'm going to check her again". MUCH MUCH to their and MY suprise I had went from 2-3 cm to 10 cm and 100% in 1 hour and I was ready to push. The nurse yelled, "GET THE ROOM READY, we have a baby that is going to be here NOW!". This frantic nurse then looked down at me and said, "Okay, we're going to call your doctor and you have to promise me that you'll keep your legs closed...." No wonder I was in so much pain....this baby had decended into the birth canal at a rather fast fast pace and he wanted OUT!!

12:50 p.m. All pain aside, the doctor arrived, 3 pushes and a beautiful happy, healthy baby boy was born. He is perfect and when I reflect back on my emotions, this is the reason I am alive. Having a child is the most beautiful blessing anyone could ask for. And for this, our family has been blessed and for that we are thankful each day.

1cm and waiting....

Well, we're on the home stretch of meeting baby boy Teplin #2. According to the doctor, I am ready to have this baby, he is just still having fun being all scrunched up inside. My blood pressure is up a little and starting to swell with fluid...the joys of the end of pregnancy. So...it's possible that I will deliver any day now, however, if not, we have a scheduled induction on Tuesday, July 18th, 2006. I will keep you all updated with any type of news! Brad and I can't wait to meet this brand new addition. Until then...we will wait, and see what happens. Little Sam is all ready to be a big brother, as he kissed my tummy tonight and said, "nite nite baby".

Wish us luck!!!

Happy 4th of July!

Daddy, I'm not sure about these loud trucks....

Sam and his adored cousins!

Papa Stan is running for State Representative! Here was Kelsey and Becky holding his banner in the parade!

We had a GREAT 4th of July! We went to the parade on Saturday, July 1st with family and friends. Sam was a little hesitant of all the loud firetrucks, however, we got through it. After the parade we had a great time eating and playing in Fireman's Park.

Before...

My first hair cut!

Yes, Sam is 20 months and got his FIRST haircut!!! He did amazing on daddy's lap. We were done in about 10 minutes and Sam was an angel. Towards the end, she whipped out the clippers, and he was a little hesitant, and told her that he was "all done". When we were finished, he said, "tank you". It was a great 1st experience for all involved!

After!!!
